Museums in Latvia


Latvia is a very small country although it has earned a lot of respect with regards to its art. There are very outstanding Latvian artists that have played a major part in making the art and culture of Latvia to grow. There are many collections of art in Latvia that are stored in museums.
The Oldest and Ethnographic Museum

The Museum of the History of Riga and Navigation is a public museum in Latvia and the oldest. There are a variety of exhibitions about Latvia history and has about 500000 objects. The Latvian Ethnographic Open-AIR Museum that is found in Riga outskirts is very old and was established in 1924.the museum has old buildings brought from all the historical regions of Latvia, all dating back to the 17th century.
War and Occupation Museum
There is the Latvian War Museum that is found in Pulvertornis. The museum intentions are to show how complicated the Latvia military political history is very complicated. It shows how the nation had to fight two times to gain its independence. The Museum of the Occupation of Latvia is in Strelnieku square. This museum reminds visitors of the rule of the regimes from communist Soviet Union and also the people that suffered and died in the foreign wars.
Art and Nature Museums
Latvia national treasures are kept in the Natural History Museum of Latvia. There are many collections of Latvia and also world nature that are collected and then reserved for the promotion through exhibitions and expeditions. There is also the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design that has collections of applied arts. In the museum are also the tapestries and amber objects displayed.
There are many fine collections in the museums that are of interest to any one. You cannot miss to see anything that interests you in these museums. Get to learn a few things and the history of Latvia when you visit the museums. Most of the Latvia museums are always free to enter for the public. Getting to the museums can be easy with the use of a taxi especially if you are new in the country.
